Swedish fugitive arrested in Morocco after year on the run
A Swedish man wanted for serious organised crime offences has been arrested in Morocco after evading authorities for nearly a year, Swedish police confirmed Tuesday.
The 32-year-old, linked to a “violence-driven criminal network,” was detained at a Tangier airport on Monday, according to a statement from the National Operations Department (Noa). He had been internationally wanted for large-scale drug trafficking and attempted aggravated extortion.
“Swedish police, together with other law enforcement agencies, continue to work intensively to bring back fugitives hiding beyond Sweden’s borders,” said Anders Wiberg, head of Noa’s international unit, in a press release.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities coordinating his potential extradition.
