The Faroese postal service, Postverk Føroya, will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Wednesday, having been officially established on 1 April 1976, reports Kringvarp Føroya.

A new commemorative stamp designed by Edward Fuglø will be released tomorrow, alongside a first-day cover and a stamp collection folder. Visitors to post offices will be offered cake and coffee to mark the occasion.

The planned anniversary event at the main post office in Tórshavn has been postponed until later this year due to ongoing extensive renovations at the Óðinshædd location.

When the service launched in 1976, there were 41 post offices across the islands. Today, the network consists of nine post offices, 10 parcel stations, and 15 postal lockers. The organisation rebranded in August 2009, adopting a new visual identity and changing its name to Posta.
