A court in northern Finland has upheld a 30-day prison sentence for a man from Inari after police discovered dynamite and stuffed protected birds, including a golden eagle and a white-tailed eagle, in his possession during a search, reports Finnish broadcaster Yle.

The Rovaniemi Court of Appeal denied the man’s request for leave to appeal, confirming the district court’s August ruling. The Lapland District Court had convicted him of explosives offences and violations of nature conservation laws.

During the search of his home, police found four sticks of dynamite—equivalent to about 1.5 kilograms—as well as 15 electric detonators. The court ruled that the man had “intentionally or through gross negligence” violated laws governing the safe handling of dangerous chemicals and explosives.

Officers also seized a stuffed golden eagle, white-tailed eagle, and goshawk, all protected species under Finnish law. The man had no legal right to possess the birds, which had been in his custody for several years.

The original sentence combined penalties for both the explosives charges and the wildlife violations.
