The Faroese Centre Party has chosen Steffan Klein Poulsen as its new leader, succeeding Jenis av Rana, who has held the position for 28 years, reports Kringvarp Føroya.

Jenis av Rana, who founded the party in 1992 and first entered parliament in 1994, confirmed the leadership transition on Tuesday. He has led the party since 1998 but stated that the decision to step down had long been planned, regardless of internal election dynamics.

Steffan Klein Poulsen received 701 personal votes in the recent parliamentary election—nearly double the 363 votes Jenis av Rana secured. The outgoing leader described the handover as a natural progression for the party.

In an interview with Faroese national broadcaster KVF, Poulsen discussed his priorities as the new leader, though specific policy details were not disclosed in the report.
