Faroe Islands power company reports reduced consumption during Earth Hour
The Faroese energy company SEV recorded a 2.8-megawatt drop in electricity use during this year’s Earth Hour, equivalent to the power consumption of 1,000 average households, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Earth Hour, an annual global event encouraging energy conservation, began in 2007 under the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). In recent weeks, the Faroe Islands’ southernmost region, Suðuroy, has generated 95% of its electricity from renewable sources, while the national average stands at 86%, according to SEV data.
