Progress reported in Faroese coalition negotiations
Coalition talks between the Faroe Islands’ three largest political parties are progressing well, according to a report by public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
Negotiations for a new government agreement are underway at the Havnar Arbeiðarafelag union building in Tórshavn, with representatives from the People’s Party (Fólkaflokkurin), Union Party (Sambandsflokkurin), and Social Democratic Party (Javnaðarflokkurin) participating. Working groups have been formed to address key policy areas, including public services, health, education, and cultural affairs.
Jógvan Jákupsson, reporting for Kringvarp Føroya, described the atmosphere as constructive. The talks follow the recent parliamentary elections, with newly elected members also taking part in the discussions.
Beinir Johannesen of the People’s Party is leading the negotiations, with Bárður á Steig Nielsen (Union Party) and Aksel V. Johannesen (Social Democratic Party) representing their respective parties.
