Finns contribute far less to charitable organisations than their Nordic neighbours, according to a new study reported by Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

Research commissioned by Responsible Giving Finland (VaLa) and its Nordic sister organisations found that around 50% of Finns donate money either occasionally or regularly. In Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, the figure rises to roughly 70%.

The most common cause supported by Finnish donors is assisting disadvantaged groups within Finland itself. In contrast, residents of other Nordic countries prioritise disaster relief and humanitarian aid.

The study’s margin of error is approximately three percentage points in either direction.
