Faroese parties enter final coalition talks after election
The Faroese Union Party, Centre Party, and Social Democratic Party are set to begin intensive coalition negotiations on Monday, following last week’s general election, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Beinir Johannesen, leader of the Union Party, has invited the two parties for decisive talks after holding preliminary meetings with all parliamentary groups. The move signals a likely three-party coalition government for the next four years.
Disagreements over national unity policies—particularly the Centre Party’s opposition to the current autonomy agreement—have been a key hurdle. However, Johannesen expressed confidence that the parties could reach a “socially sustainable solution” on the issue.
He emphasised the importance of forming a stable government with the three largest parties, citing the need for “secure leadership” amid upcoming challenges.
