A tourist reported missing since Monday has not checked out from Mefjord Brygge hotel on Senja. In response, the police have announced a renewed search effort for the individual on Tuesday morning. “The latest update is that we have initiated a larger search with additional personnel to locate the missing tourist. He has been unaccounted for the past three days,” stated police operations leader Torbjørn Neess.

Authorities have found items in the man’s hotel room and have positively identified him. The search team is conducting operations both on land and along the coastline in a region known for its tourist activity. Approximately 25 personnel from various organizations, including the Red Cross, Norwegian People’s Aid, and local rescue services, are participating, supported by police drones, dogs, and rescue helicopters.

The terrain in the search area is rugged, featuring mountains, coastal regions, forests, and marshlands. The search effort has been ongoing since it began yesterday, with a helicopter carrying out multiple aerial scans of the last known location of the man, who has not been seen since Friday.

He is described as a man of Southern European descent with dark hair and tanned skin. On Monday evening, a rescue helicopter was deployed to Kyle Mountain, situated between Mefjordvær and Senjahopen, to aid in the search. The mountain reaches an elevation of 503 meters and features well-marked trails offering impressive views. Search operations have indicated that the missing individual may still be outdoors.
