Kuusamo airport resumes normal operations after technical fault fixed
Kuusamo Airport in northern Finland has resumed full operations after a technical fault in its landing system was repaired, public broadcaster Yle reports.
The issue, detected on Friday, caused uncertainty over weekend flights and led to two Finnair passenger planes being diverted to Oulu Airport. The 135 affected passengers were transported by bus from Oulu to Kuusamo.
The fault involved the airport’s instrument landing system (ILS), a precision navigation tool that assists pilots in landing safely during poor visibility or when visual contact with the runway is limited. Poor weather conditions had already reduced visibility at Kuusamo earlier on Friday.
“The exact cause of the fault cannot be specified, but it has now been resolved,” said Iiris Iso-aho, communications specialist at Finavia, the operator of Finland’s airport network.
