Police in Malmö’s Rosengård district are intensifying efforts to prevent a potential spiral of violence following the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy, Swedish public broadcaster SVT reports. Authorities have linked the killing to rival criminal networks and are deploying additional surveillance to curb further attacks.

Jimmy Arkenheim, local police area chief in Rosengård, described the situation as “serious,” noting that such incidents historically trigger further violence. “Right now, we are working very focused on breaking a potential cycle of violence,” he told SVT’s Aktuellt program.

Police are pursuing three key strategies: advancing the ongoing murder investigation, restoring public safety, and preventing new incidents. Measures include expanded camera surveillance, drone patrols, and monitoring roads and railways to intercept suspects traveling to Malmö.

Arkenheim said traffic controls had already thwarted around 40 violent incidents in 2025 by stopping individuals arriving by car or train. While SVT sources suggest the violence stems from a cocaine conflict in Denmark involving the Foxtrot and Rumba networks, Arkenheim declined to confirm specifics. “We avoid naming criminal networks and focus on individual perpetrators,” he stated.

The killing has heightened anxiety among Rosengård residents, with police urging calm as investigations continue.
