Inmates in Mjørkadali prison vote early as Faroese elections coincide with pancake day
Inmates at Mjørkadali prison have already cast their votes in the Faroese parliamentary elections, with officials ensuring their participation ahead of the official election day, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The early voting was arranged by the civil registry office to accommodate prisoners, said Birgir Hansen, a prison guard. “They were here last week, so the decision was made to hold early voting,” he explained, noting that two separate elections this week required two visits from officials.
While politics may dominate the day for many, the prison’s menu offers a lighter distraction: pancakes are on the menu. For those curious, the recipe—shared by a grandmother from Signabøur—includes 200g melted butter, six eggs, 210g flour, 130g sugar, half a litre of milk, and plenty of vanilla sugar. “The butter should be added last,” she advises.
