Faroe Islands unemployment rate falls to one percent
The Faroe Islands’ unemployment rate dropped to one percent in February, marking a slight decline from the same month last year, according to the national statistics agency Hagstovan.
Data released Wednesday shows 352 people were registered as unemployed last month, 61 fewer than in February 2025. The rate remains marginally lower than the 1.1 percent recorded last year.
Unemployment is higher among men than women, with regional differences showing the lowest rate in the Norðoyggjar region and the highest in Suðuroy.
Long-term unemployment—defined as being without work for over a year—affects 44 individuals, or 12.5 percent of the total unemployed. Current figures from the unemployment insurance agency ALS indicate 268 people receive jobless benefits, including 174 men and 94 women.
