Independent candidate receives more votes in Klaksvík than entire People’s Party
An independent candidate in Klaksvík has secured more personal votes than the entire People’s Party combined in the Faroese town, according to a report by Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
Sjúrður Skaale, a harbour worker, received 1,066 personal votes in Klaksvík, surpassing the total votes cast for the People’s Party in the municipality. The result has surprised observers, as Klaksvík has long been considered a stronghold for left-wing parties.
Jóhann Lützen, a political commentator, noted that while Skaale is not running in the national parliamentary election, it remains to be seen whether his voters will continue to support the Social Democratic Party. Lützen suggested that Skaale’s opposition to mosque construction in the Faroe Islands and his efforts to secure Danish funding for infrastructure projects across the country may have contributed to his strong showing.
