Denmark’s oldest voter follows election closely but without sound
Denmark’s oldest registered voter, a 109-year-old woman, is closely following the country’s parliamentary election—but without sound, reports Danish broadcaster DR.
The centenarian, who lives in a care home in the town of Hjørring, has been watching election coverage on television with the volume muted. Staff at the facility say she prefers to follow along visually, absorbing the images and text without audio.
Despite her age, she remains engaged in the democratic process. Care home employees note that she has voted in every election since women gained suffrage in Denmark in 1915.
Election Day in Denmark sees voters casting ballots for the 179 seats in the Folketing, the country’s unicameral parliament. The 109-year-old’s participation marks over a century of continuous voting.
