Strong winds fail to deter voters in Viðareiði
Residents of Viðareiði in the Faroe Islands braved strong winds to cast their ballots in local elections, despite challenging weather conditions, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
High winds swept through the northern village, but voters—both young and old—turned out in steady numbers. Polling stations were set up in the local school, where election officials observed a determined turnout.
“Perhaps it’s the older voters who come regularly, or those who have time off work, but we’ve seen more people than expected,” said Jensebeth Absalonsen, the polling station supervisor in Viðareiði.
Local candidate Birita Matras Petersen had struggled to campaign in the gusty conditions but noted that the weather did not discourage residents from exercising their right to vote.
