Finland will not introduce temporary tax reductions on transport fuels, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo told MTV News on Monday, despite Sweden’s recent decision to lower fuel taxes in response to rising costs.

Orpo, leader of the centre-right National Coalition Party, stated that the government is not considering short-term subsidies for petrol and diesel. Sweden’s proposed measures—including reduced fuel taxes and increased electricity support—are expected to cost hundreds of millions of euros.

The Finnish prime minister said authorities are monitoring the situation but will assess further action only after evaluating developments. He noted that the Middle East crisis had escalated rapidly, expressing hope for a swift resolution.

Sweden’s government has proposed temporarily cutting taxes on petrol and diesel alongside expanded electricity subsidies to ease cost-of-living pressures.
