Faroese and Greenlandic MPs could decide Denmark’s election outcome
The Faroese and Greenlandic members of the Danish parliament may again play a decisive role in Tuesday’s general election, as polls show the red and blue blocs running neck and neck, Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
In Denmark’s 2022 election, the North Atlantic representatives secured a narrow majority for the red bloc, allowing Mette Frederiksen to form a government. Lars Løkke Rasmussen, leader of the Danish party Moderaterne, openly criticised the outcome at the time, stating: “The red majority exists only because of the votes from Greenland. Otherwise, there would be no red majority.”
According to TV2, if only votes from Denmark proper had been counted—excluding the Faroe Islands and Greenland—the blue bloc, together with Moderaterne, would have received 62,501 more votes than the red bloc.
