Son of Kopervik double homicide victim speaks out: “Incomprehensible and heartbreaking”
The son of one of the two people found dead in Kopervik on Saturday has shared emotional tributes to his father, describing the killing as “incomprehensible, heavy, and very sad,” Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet reports.
Police discovered the bodies of a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s at separate addresses near the Pilehagen collective housing facility in Kopervik, Karmøy, where both victims resided. Authorities have since arrested two men in their 30s on suspicion of the double homicide.
The victim’s son, whose name has been withheld, posted a tribute on social media, describing his father’s life as difficult but filled with warmth. “He had many battles, often against himself,” the son wrote. “At the same time, he had qualities we will always carry with us: a good, gentle sense of humour, care, and warmth.”
“We are left with many memories, and many of them are good,” he continued, concluding with: “Rest in peace, Dad.” The post received an outpouring of condolences from commenters.
Victims lived in supported housing
Police confirmed both victims were residents of Pilehagen, a staffed collective housing facility for individuals facing daily challenges, including mental health and substance abuse issues, according to Kopervik municipal director Vibeke Vikse Johnsen.
A neighbour previously told Dagbladet the area had frequent police activity, describing it as troubled. Authorities have cordoned off a large area around the facility as part of the investigation.
Two men arrested
Two men in their 30s were detained Saturday evening in connection with the killings. Police believe the suspects had a prior relationship with the victims.
“It was extremely dramatic what police encountered—first one deceased person, then another nearby,” prosecutor Fredrik Martin Soma told Haugesunds Avis. Police deployed significant resources to locate the suspects and secure the area.
On Sunday, forensic teams examined a property in central Kopervik, including searching through outdoor waste bins. The suspects’ legal representatives, Odd Arild Helland and Ben Einar Grindhaug, confirmed to media that their clients were not yet fit for questioning due to health concerns.
The municipality is providing support to affected residents and neighbours.
