Farming sector faces cost crisis due to Middle East conflict, warns MTK
The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK) has warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is pushing Finland’s agricultural sector toward a cost crisis, reports Finnish news agency STT.
Rising prices for fertilizers and fuel, driven by the war, could impose additional costs on the industry amounting to hundreds of millions of euros, according to MTK. The organization states that arable crop production is already under immediate pressure.
MTK is urging the government to prepare measures to secure farming operations for the upcoming growing season.
