Popular free summer concerts at Puotila Manor cancelled due to permit delays
Free outdoor concerts at Helsinki’s Puotila Manor will not take place this summer, despite progress in resolving permit issues, Yle Uusimaa reports.
The cancellation follows noise complaints and the discovery that the venue’s performance stage lacked a building permit. While both issues are expected to be resolved before summer, event organiser and restaurant manager Tanja Löppönen said planning a full concert series is no longer feasible.
“It’s already mid-March, and there’s still uncertainty about the permit timeline,” Löppönen explained. “We can’t organise the kind of concert series we’ve had in previous summers.”
The free concerts, launched in 2020 during the pandemic, have drawn up to 2,500 attendees, featuring artists such as Atomirotta, Paleface, and Emma Salokoski. This summer, the manor will instead host smaller events without amplified sound.
Helsinki’s building control authority confirmed the stage was constructed without a permit after receiving a complaint last autumn. The structure was dismantled over winter, and a new permit application is under review. Leena Immonen, head of building control, said the goal is to find a swift solution, with interim approval possible before summer.
Meanwhile, the city’s environmental monitoring unit has received multiple noise complaints about the concerts. Katariina Serenius, unit head, said new regulations—expected to pass this spring—will require noise notifications for daytime events exceeding 95 decibels, even if they end before 10 PM.
Löppönen remains hopeful the concerts may return in 2026 but called this summer a “transitional period” to assess updated city guidelines.
