The grey, overcast weather in Finland is giving way to sunshine, with temperatures rising above 10°C in some areas by Saturday, according to public broadcaster Yle’s meteorologist Elias Paakkanen.
Clear skies will bring frost to many regions overnight, meaning drivers should not rush to switch to summer tyres. “When the weather clears, nighttime frost is expected later this week,” Paakkanen warned. “Road surfaces and cars can still freeze, so caution is needed.”
Friday will see rain in Lapland, but the rest of the country can expect dry and increasingly sunny conditions. Daytime temperatures will stay well above freezing, making it ideal for outdoor activities.
“Weekend temperatures could exceed 10°C in places, though most areas will see highs between 5°C and 10°C,” Paakkanen said.
While Finns often worry about a return of winter, Paakkanen joked that any late cold snap would likely hold off until at least May Day (Vappu) if it doesn’t arrive by Easter.
