Danish Christmas tree farmer devastated after 2,000 trees sabotaged
A Christmas tree farmer in northern Denmark has suffered extensive damage after vandals cut the tops off around 2,000 trees, rendering them unsellable and leaving the grower facing major financial losses.
Peter Møller, who cultivates between 10,000 and 12,000 trees near Hobro, discovered the destruction on Saturday, reports Danish broadcaster DR. The trees, each a decade old, had their upper sections removed in what Møller described as a “catastrophe.”
“I thought it was terrible, a disaster—I’ve never seen anything like it. At that moment, I was almost in tears,” Møller told DR. The damage is estimated at half a million Danish kroner (approx. €67,000), as the trees can no longer be sold and must be cleared and replaced.
The emotional toll is compounded by the years of work invested. “That’s what makes it so emotional. These trees are ten years old, and there’s been a huge amount of effort put into them,” Møller said.
With no surveillance cameras on the property—only a small fence—Møller now plans to install cameras across the entire area. He has reported the incident to North Jutland Police, who are investigating. “I hope we, and our customers, can be spared from such deceit in the future,” he added.
