A second Moomin-themed attraction is set to open in Finland after Rovaniemi City Council reserved a plot of land in the Santa Claus Village area for Muumimaailma Oy, the company behind the existing Moominworld in Naantali, reports Yle.

The planned park, currently under the working title Moomin Experience on the Arctic Circle, will be smaller than its Naantali counterpart and designed with interactive elements. According to Muumimaailma Oy CEO Tomi Lohikoski, Rovaniemi’s strong winter tourism and international appeal make it an ideal location.

“This is an exceptional site because the winter season here is busier, and there are many international visitors,” Lohikoski said. He added that the Moomins hold particular appeal for adult audiences outside Finland, which will influence the park’s design. “The core idea is that guests can meet Moomin characters and engage in interactive activities.”

The project will also include Moomin-themed accommodation, with plans for cabins and igloo-style lodging. While primarily targeting international tourists, the company sees potential for domestic visitors, especially during the summer months when travel to Naantali may be less convenient.

Rovaniemi Mayor Ulla-Kirsikka Vainio welcomed the initiative, stating that the Moomins embody the joy and hope the city aims to offer, particularly to children. “We are truly delighted to bring the Moomins to Rovaniemi,” she said in a city press release.

Construction is expected to proceed in phases, with the earliest possible opening during the upcoming winter season, depending on permitting and building timelines. The City Council’s land allocation decision is not yet legally binding.

Muumimaailma Oy, a family-owned company, has operated the original Moominworld in Naantali since 1993, attracting 150,000–200,000 visitors annually during the summer season.
