The Faroese Centre Party (Miðflokkurin) has unveiled its election platform ahead of the 2026 parliamentary vote, emphasising ethical values but stopping short of demanding a full ban on abortion, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Speaking at the party’s manifesto launch in Tórshavn’s Norðurlandahús, leader Jenis av Rana outlined key priorities, including opposition to abortion while acknowledging it would not be an absolute requirement in coalition talks. The party also seeks to prohibit religious groups that “do not respect the security, peace, and freedom of citizens.”
Other central proposals include reducing immigration, improving foreign policy coordination, and increasing child tax deductions. The party advocates for a state-owned bank, a home repair subsidy scheme, and a shorter standard workweek.
On economic policy, Miðflokkurin proposes taxing corporate windfall profits, offering long-term fishing licenses, and allowing pensioners to continue working past retirement age.
The party also reiterated its long-standing demand for the Faroe Islands to take control of the Nordic House cultural centre in Tórshavn, currently administered by the Nordic Council.
