Icelandic meteorologists warn of extreme weather swings
Iceland’s state broadcaster RÚV reports that meteorologists are observing unusually rapid shifts between extreme weather conditions, with periods of intense storms followed abruptly by calm, cold spells.
Speaking to RÚV, a forecaster from the Icelandic Meteorological Office described the pattern as “going from one extreme to another,” noting that such volatility is placing strain on infrastructure and disrupting daily life. The sudden transitions—including heavy snowfall, high winds, and rapid temperature drops—have led to road closures and travel advisories in parts of the country.
While Iceland is accustomed to changeable weather, the frequency and intensity of these shifts have raised concerns. Authorities advise residents to monitor updates and prepare for hazardous conditions, particularly in rural and highland areas.
