Severe storm leaves car submerged in eastern Norway
Heavy wind and rainfall caused chaos across eastern Norway overnight, with flooding trapping a car under water on a county road, Dagbladet reports.
The vehicle was submerged on County Road 1016 between Spydeberg and Knapstad in Indre Østfold municipality. Authorities had issued a yellow weather alert for strong winds and flooding in parts of the region, with wind gusts reaching 26 metres per second in the Oslo area.
The storm peaked between 10 PM Thursday and 1 AM Friday before gradually easing. Jeanette Andresen, a traffic operator at the Eastern Norway Road Traffic Centre, described a busy night for road crews clearing fallen trees and debris.
Multiple roads were affected by flooding, while strong winds damaged buildings, including Hellerud Upper Secondary School in Oslo.
