Around 1,400 Rosenborg supporters descended on Molde on Saturday, filling the streets with smoke, flares, and chants ahead of the highly anticipated Norwegian Eliteserien match against Molde FK. Police escorted the large group through the city center, where tensions briefly flared as families with children were advised to move away from the procession.
The crowd, many dressed in black and carrying flares, fireworks, and smoke bombs, marched toward Aker Stadion more than an hour before the 18:00 kickoff. While no violent incidents were reported this time, the atmosphere was tense, with one local resident questioning the noise levels near a playground. Police maintained a heavy presence to prevent clashes.
Previous encounters between the two clubs have seen violent outbreaks. In May 2024, several incidents were recorded before a match, including a 14-year-old being kicked in the back, a man in his 20s punched and kicked while on the ground, and a minor assaulted at a bus station after displaying a Molde sticker. Four of the five suspects—all Rosenborg fans—were later identified and fined.
In 2023, some supporters also confronted an NRK photographer during similar pre-match gatherings. Authorities had significantly increased policing for Saturday’s fixture in response to past disturbances.
The rivalry between Molde FK and Rosenborg BK is one of the most intense in Norwegian football, often drawing large away followings and heightened security measures.
