Grønland’s government faces collapse amid political turmoil

Grønland’s political landscape is in turmoil as the ruling party Siumut announces its withdrawal from the government, with another party threatening to follow suit.

The timing is concerning, say residents in the capital Nuuk, as Grønland faces external pressures and needs internal stability.

Kim Zinck, a coastal radio chief, expresses regret over the government’s potential collapse, highlighting the loss of Vivian Motzfeldt, the outgoing foreign and research minister, who played a key role in diplomatic efforts, notably during a recent crisis with the US.

Motzfeldt herself criticizes Siumut’s decision, stating it is not in the public’s interest.

Sofie Simionsen, a teacher student, echoes these sentiments, praising Motzfeldt’s work and expressing shock at Siumut’s departure.

Adding to the uncertainty, Aqqalu C. Jerimiassen, leader of the Atassut party, reveals they are also considering leaving the government.

Kim Zinck laments the potential escalation, stating that the government is “falling apart at a bad time,” especially given the current critical situation.
