Johansen appointed mayor of Vágur Municipality amid council shift
Bjarni Johansen will serve as the mayor of Vágur Municipality for the next four years. This decision was reached during a recent city council meeting where representatives from the Social Democratic Party and the Union Party nominated Johansen for the mayoral position. Despite his initial surprise, Johansen ultimately supported the motion to appoint him.
In a statement reflecting on the proceedings, Arni D. Brattaberg, who previously held the mayoral role, expressed disappointment about the outcome and refrained from providing further comment. He stated that prior to the council meeting, he and Johansen had reached an agreement intended to be binding. The sudden motion to elect Johansen caught him off guard, especially since Brattaberg had envisioned a wider coalition.
When asked if he could have approached the situation differently, Brattaberg mentioned that three weeks prior, Levi Mørk had offered him the opportunity to step into the mayoral role, which he declined. “It’s something I regret now,” he admitted.
The political dynamic in Vágur has shifted abruptly due to this unexpected turn, leaving Brattaberg and others in the council reflecting on their strategies and relationships moving forward.
