Faroe Islands

Concerns surrounding safety for those who will construct and utilize the Suduroy tunnel have emerged as the tunnel company advocates for its proposed exit locations.

Teitur Samuelsen, managing director of the tunnel project, expressed these concerns. During recent public consultations regarding the Suduroy tunnel, issues were raised about the intended route due to the anticipated heavy traffic through the village of Sandur. Additionally, many participants highlighted potential environmental impacts.

The planned route for the tunnel is expected to lead to increased traffic volume in Sandur. Landsverk has recommended extending the tunnel by several kilometers to avoid the traffic congestion in the village.

However, Samuelsen pointed out that this alteration could pose additional risks. The debate continues as local residents seek to balance development with safety and environmental considerations.
