Families in Randers face upheaval as children must relocate from dangerous childcare facility
Several families in Randers experienced upheaval on Friday evening when the local municipality announced that, after the weekend, their children would need to be relocated to a new childcare facility. This decision stems from safety concerns regarding Toftegården, the current daycare, which has been deemed hazardous. An engineering report indicated that one of the seven buildings on the premises is at risk of collapse, while others have various fire and safety issues.
Terrie Kragh Holm, the mother of four-year-old Storm, who attends Toftegården, found the news alarming. Learning that her son was in a potentially dangerous environment left her feeling frightened and uneasy about the possibility of the building collapsing.
As a stay-at-home caregiver, Terrie and her husband are unable to transport Storm across town each morning to a new location. Upon reading the announcement on the communication platform Aula, she was close to tears and expressed her frustration at the logistical difficulties the changes would create for their routine. Currently, Storm is being cared for by his grandmother, which Terrie feels is not a sustainable solution.
Terrie has also reached out to other parents, all of whom share her frustrations about the lack of communication from the municipality. She and other parents feel inadequately informed about the situation and the next steps.
The head of childcare services in Randers acknowledged the frightening nature of the news and reassured that the municipality acted as quickly as possible based on the information available. He noted plans for a parent meeting later in the week to discuss immediate and long-term solutions, with invitations expected to go out soon.
