Despite suffering a heavy defeat to Kristiansund (0-4), Rosenborg was still reliant on Strømsgodset’s performance, who needed to secure a victory over Molde for Rosenborg’s European aspirations to be realized. Strømsgodset managed to win 1-0, ensuring that Rosenborg clinched fourth place and qualified for European competition next year.

As a result, the club will participate in the second qualifying round of the Conference League, with the potential to advance further and vie for a spot in the group stage. In addition to this achievement, Rosenborg will receive 17.8 million Norwegian kroner for their league finish. Player Erlend Dahl Reitan reflected on this success, noting that while it’s a positive step, the club aims for more than just fourth place.

Supporters erupted onto the field in Kristiansund once the fourth place was confirmed. Both coach Alfred Johansson and the fans watched the closing moments of the Molde match on their phones, filled with anticipation. Johansson expressed relief at the outcome, highlighting how much it meant to the supporters.

Sports analyst Birger Løfaldli emphasized that the fourth-place finish holds significant implications. Firstly, it provides valuable European experience for Rosenborg, which he believes is essential to the club’s identity. Secondly, the financial aspect is critical, particularly given the club’s current economic challenges.

Løfaldli considered the season a major success for Rosenborg. Although fourth place is typically not celebrated in Trondheim, the team had faced considerable challenges in recent years, leading to lower expectations and greater patience from fans. After a rocky start, their performance in the latter part of the season has shown promise, affirming it as a positive turnaround overall.
