Bratlien defends Høiby amid public scrutiny over serious allegations in Norway
Advocate Øyvind Bratlien has represented numerous clients whom law enforcement often labels as gangsters, achieving favorable outcomes for them. Previously under the radar, Bratlien has gained recognition as a prominent defense attorney for individuals facing serious allegations. His upbringing in Stovner heavily influenced his legal career, sparking an interest in justice issues after reading about miscarriages of justice in his youth. Notably, he does not accept cases involving pedophiles, a policy upheld by his colleagues as well.
Bratlien’s expertise has made him a go-to lawyer, especially after Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, sought him as counsel following his arrest related to a violent incident in August. Despite the pressures surrounding Høiby’s case, Bratlien asserts that he defends his clients impartially, irrespective of their background or the allegations against them.
Since Høiby’s initial arrest, charges against him have expanded, including allegations of sexual assault. Bratlien maintains that even with these escalated accusations, Høiby should never have been detained. The situation has attracted considerable public scrutiny, intertwining with the future of the Norwegian royal family.
Bratlien’s background is shaped by a challenging environment where he learned the value of advocacy and justice from a young age. He recalls being captivated by cases of wrongful convictions, particularly one involving Per Liland, which solidified his passion for law. Equipped with a strong commitment to his clients, Bratlien continues to fight for justice, tirelessly working on cases that reflect both his principles and his legal acumen.
