Ilsøy becomes lead candidate for Centre Party in Buskerud ahead of parliamentary elections
Sigrid Simensen Ilsøy, the current mayor of Hol Municipality, expresses her gratitude and excitement after being narrowly elected the lead candidate for the Centre Party in Buskerud for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Initially the top choice of the nomination committee, she faced competition from another mayor, Pål Rørby of Hemsedal, who acknowledged her capabilities but contested the top position fervently.
Reflecting on his loss at the party’s nomination meeting, Rørby noted that while he feels qualified, Ilsøy’s experience as deputy to long-serving representative Per Olaf Lundteigen is a significant advantage. Rørby will serve as the party’s fourth candidate in Buskerud.
Ilsøy referred to Lundteigen’s long tenure, mentioning, “Jumping after Wirkola has seldom resonated more,” drawing an analogy to the pressure of following a legendary figure. She regards her past seven to eight years closely working with Lundteigen as a crucial learning opportunity, and he has openly supported her candidacy.
Should Ilsøy win a seat in parliament, Hol will need to appoint a new mayor. She has indicated that the transition is already organized and assured that a Centre Party member will continue to lead Hol. Although she did not disclose the name of her successor, she confirmed that the matter has been settled.
Currently serving as Lundteigen’s deputy, Ilsøy also holds the position of county leader for the Centre Party in Buskerud and is the national vice chair of the Centre Women’s group.
