The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued yellow weather warnings for the Strandir region and Northwest Iceland due to heavy rainfall and strong winds, as well as for East Iceland due to westerly gales and sharp gusts.

The warning for Northwest Iceland will take effect at midnight and remain in place until 3 PM tomorrow. Significant rain is expected in the Tröllaskagi area and western Skagafjörður, increasing the risk of landslides and rockfalls on steep slopes. The forecast indicates substantial rainfall today and tomorrow, with precipitation potentially exceeding 150 mm within the next 36 hours. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated in the early hours of Monday, accompanied by strong winds. Such conditions may also lead to rising water levels and flooding in rivers.

The warning for East Iceland will also commence at midnight tonight and last until 6 PM tomorrow. Here, westerly winds of 8 to 15 m/s are forecast, with stronger gusts reaching 25 to 30 m/s in mountainous areas, especially from Tröllaskagi to Skjálfandi. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution, particularly in areas where vehicles may be affected by strong winds.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
