Investigation ongoing into riot following Tappara vs Ilves ice hockey match in Tampere
Authorities in Tampere are continuing their investigation into violent clashes that occurred following a local ice hockey match on Friday evening. The incidents have been classified as a riot, a rare designation for criminal activity. The lead investigator, a crime commissioner from the Central Finland police department, has reported multiple complaints associated with the brawls, including three cases of assault, one instance of resisting an official, and one charge of interfering with a public servant.
The match featured local teams Tappara and Ilves, with Ilves emerging victorious at 4-0. Some individuals involved in the disturbance disregarded requests from security personnel and police to leave the area. A total of nine people were detained for disturbing the peace but were released the following day.
It remains unclear how many people participated in the confrontations, as authorities have not yet secured all video footage related to the events. The clashes were reported to have taken place near Kalevantie. Currently, investigators are trying to establish the initial circumstances of the incident, and it is unknown whether all participants were attendees of the game or bystanders without a direct connection to the event.
Ambulance services were also called to the scene on Friday night, linked to the assaults currently under investigation. There have been no reports indicating that any individuals were carrying weapons. Investigators are working to determine whether the clashes were between fans of Tappara and Ilves, acknowledging that both groups have their supporters in local games, yet no definitive conclusions have been reached.
