A recent study reveals that 38% of social workers in Sweden have experienced threats or violence in the past two years. This marks a slight increase from the 37% reported in 2022 and up from 35% in 2019. In response to these alarming statistics, the Akademikerförbundet SR is advocating for the establishment of a safety commission. This initiative aims to bring together trade unions, employers, and the government to implement effective measures to enhance safety for social workers. Heike Erkers from the union underscores the importance of addressing these issues, noting that the ongoing violence could negatively impact the appeal of the profession.
