Health situation improves at Karelian Brigade in Kouvola as respiratory infections decline
In the Karelian Brigade in Kouvola, the health situation is reported to have nearly returned to normal. This autumn, the base has experienced an unusual spike in respiratory infections, with both adenovirus and mycoplasma bacteria noted among the cases. Many soldiers displayed severe symptoms during this time.
As of Tuesday, there were no reported cases of respiratory infection symptoms at the health clinic’s rest department. Testing continues to show some presence of adenovirus and mycoplasma, but certain precautionary measures have already been lifted. For instance, there are no longer any exceptional protocols regarding vacations or meal times. Initially, unit leaves were canceled on a weekend-by-weekend basis due to health concerns.
Despite the improvements, hygiene practices remain in place, including regular handwashing and enhanced cleaning procedures. Additionally, the use of face masks is still required in many areas. However, the possibility of easing these restrictions is currently under consideration.
The health crisis peaked in October when hundreds of conscripts fell ill, with some experiencing delays in receiving treatment. Healthcare staff at the brigade have been working overtime amid the situation, although no additional personnel have been hired to manage the workload.
