Social Democrats and Green Party urge Ulf Kristersson to discuss Donald Trump ahead of parliamentary debate in Sweden
Ahead of today’s parliamentary party leader debate, the Social Democratic Party and the Green Party are jointly urging Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to initiate discussions regarding Donald Trump. Magdalena Andersson emphasized the importance of unity, stating, “Sweden is a small nation, and in challenging times, we should aim to come together to tackle these issues collectively.”
The parties are particularly concerned about the potential security implications of Trump’s policies for NATO and Ukraine, as well as their impact on climate change and the economy, especially if he follows through on proposed trade tariffs. They believe that Trump’s inauguration in January should not preclude proactive conversations.
“Trump is already reaching out to leaders worldwide, attempting to exert influence. We know that developments are imminent, making it essential for the government to outline its intentions. There’s no reason to delay,” said Helldén.
Andersson and Helldén noted that both the Social Democrats and the Greens could offer valuable insights from their previous experiences in government during Trump’s prior presidency.
