Thunderstorms are expected in southern and eastern Finland today, particularly in the afternoon and evening. There have also been developing thunder showers in the western regions throughout the day. Meteorologist Matti Huutonen reports that thunder showers are widespread from the capital region towards Tampere and east of Jyväskylä. A low-pressure system to the southeast of Finland is keeping the weather humid and unstable in these areas today.

While the thunderstorms are notable, they are not classified as exceptionally severe. The Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued warnings about heavy rainfall, but these warnings are at the lowest alert level. Lightning has been observed, and additional strikes are expected in the coming hours. Thunderstorms should begin to diminish gradually from around seven o’clock in the evening.

The day has been muggy across the country, with clear weather in the north. Utsjoki recorded a high of 27.4 degrees Celsius. Rain showers are expected to become increasingly sparse on Sunday. The night leading into Sunday and Sunday morning will likely be dry and sunny in many areas. Some localized showers may occur in the southernmost regions, particularly in the capital and the Varsinais-Suomi and Satakunta areas, but these will also taper off by evening.

Northern and Central Finland will enjoy predominantly dry weather on Sunday, with hot temperatures forecasted across most of the country, except for the southernmost parts. Monday is set to begin sunny and hot. The upcoming week appears to be predominantly warm with the possibility of localized rain and thunderstorms, particularly in western Finland early in the week, with daytime temperatures expected between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.
