Arne Bye faces trial for sexual assault of 87 patients in Frosta
The case against Arne Bye, a former physician in Frosta, has garnered significant attention as he faces charges related to the abuse of his medical position. Bye is accused of sexually assaulting 87 patients and using his authority to engage in sexual acts with an additional 94 women, with the events allegedly spanning from 2004 to 2022. He has admitted to three counts of rape and 35 instances of professional misconduct.
One woman, now in her 40s, recalls a particularly distressing gynecological exam during which Bye allegedly touched her inappropriately and attempted to reassure her by citing non-existent medical concerns. She expressed feelings of shame and regret for not reporting him sooner, believing that her silence may have allowed others to experience similar abuse.
Another accuser described her traumatic experiences during consultations, noting that Bye’s examination techniques left her feeling as though she had lost control over her own body. This emotional toll has led some victims to struggle with trust in medical professionals following their experiences with Bye.
As the trial is set to commence from November 5 to February 18, Bye maintains his innocence regarding the majority of allegations, claiming that any inappropriate actions did not occur. He has described his practice as meticulous and has pointed to discrepancies he perceives in his patients’ accounts.
With a total of 94 alleged victims involved, the case raises serious questions about medical ethics, patient safety, and the accountability of healthcare practitioners. The unfolding trial is expected to further illuminate the experiences of those affected by these allegations.
