Manuscript transfer from Árnastofnun to Eddu in Iceland set for today
The transfer of historical manuscripts from Árnastofnun to Eddu, the House of Icelandic Culture, is set to take place today at noon. The head of the cultural division has assured that extensive security measures are in place for this operation.
Today marks the initial phase of transporting the first batch of twenty manuscripts, with a complete transfer expected before Christmas. The manuscripts will be housed in a secure room designed to maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels, which have been carefully arranged to ensure the preservation of these valuable artifacts.
The significance of this event is heightened by the presence of police escort during the transfer, highlighting the fragility and importance of the documents. The head of the cultural division emphasized that careful packing and transportation in a suitable vehicle, accompanied by law enforcement, are paramount in preserving these items.
The manuscript collection, which includes over two thousand works along with ancient documents, will require considerable logistical planning, as they are stored in individual boxes to maintain their integrity.
A public exhibition showcasing these manuscripts is scheduled to open at Eddu this Saturday at 2 PM. The exhibition, aptly titled “A World in Words,” will not only feature the manuscripts themselves but also provide interpretations through printed narratives and touchscreens.
Visitors will gain insights into the rich content of the manuscripts, encompassing both text and illustrations, while exploring foreign influences on Icelandic medieval culture. The event aims to foster a greater appreciation for the historical significance of Icelandic literature, both at home and internationally.
