The police are investigating suspicious purchases made by state care homes, according to a report by MTV News. Allegations have emerged regarding potentially unlawful acquisitions worth hundreds of thousands of euros. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), which oversees general regulation of state care homes (VKK), has submitted a request for an investigation to the police concerning the unclear purchases. The police have since initiated a preliminary investigation into the matter.

An internal audit commissioned by THL indicates that the procurement processes for the state care homes during the years 2022-2023 did not adhere to procurement laws. The former director of these child protection units denies any wrongdoing related to the legality of these transactions, as reported by MTV.

State care homes provide educational services in Vihdissä, Kouvolassa, Mikkelissä, Limingassa, and Pedersöre. In total, these care facilities accommodate 107 residents.
