On Sunday afternoon, employees from the facility where the suspect resided transported him to visit his mother and younger brother. This visit occurred just two days before the mother was found dead and the brother seriously injured in a home in Vestnes.

The suspect, a man in his twenties, was apprehended shortly after the incident. He faces allegations of causing serious bodily harm resulting in his mother’s death and inflicting serious injury on his brother. Questions have arisen regarding the nature of the suspect’s visit, particularly in light of the events that transpired afterward. His defense attorney has raised concerns about the supervision and appropriateness of the visit.

Currently, the police cannot release further details about this visit due to confidentiality regulations binding the institution. The suspect is now detained at the facility and is reportedly experiencing mental health issues.

During interrogations, the suspect has connected himself to the actions that led to the injuries of both his mother and brother. A preliminary hearing has confirmed that he acknowledged his involvement. However, he has not yet been asked about his stance on criminal culpability.

In 2022, he was previously charged with violence and making threats against his mother but that case was closed due to questions regarding his mental competence. It has been reported that he threatened his family with a knife during that time.

Police investigations are ongoing, and details regarding the suspect’s supervision and care are still pending as the police await necessary exemptions from confidentiality to disclose that information.
