Former Swedish EU Minister Jessika Roswall has been appointed as the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resilience in the new European Commission led by President Ursula von der Leyen. She has garnered support from major party groups including the European People’s Party (EPP), the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), Renew Europe, and the Greens. However, the Left and the far-right group, Patriotic Europeans (PfE), voted against her appointment.

The European Parliament is scheduled to vote on the entire commission on November 27. This update follows criticism directed at Roswall, as some have expressed concerns about her suitability for the role.

As the date approaches for the vote, anticipation builds regarding the future of the commission and Roswall’s potential impact on environmental policies within the EU.
