A new company named Kapp Skaginn has officially launched its operations in Akranes, following the bankruptcy of Skaginn 3X, which led to the loss of 128 jobs. Kapp Skaginn is primarily owned by the technology company Kapp and aims to revive the production of high-tech equipment for the seafood processing industry.

The company commenced its activities last Friday and is prepared for orders and production. According to Olafur Karl Sigurdarson, the deputy CEO of Kapp, they have been focusing on hiring staff and setting up machinery to get ready for production. The goal is to employ around 30 people by the end of the year.

Kapp Skaginn intends to recruit a portion of the workforce that was previously employed by Skaginn 3X. Olafur mentioned that they have been in discussions with former employees who possess significant experience and knowledge in the industry and with their technology.

The bankruptcy of Skaginn 3X significantly impacted the local economy, resulting in the job losses. Olafur noted that the new company has received a warm welcome in Akranes, highlighting a general sense of optimism within the community, where there is a strong competitive spirit among the residents.
