Investigation concludes in fatal stabbing of teenager in Oslo
The police investigation into a fatal stabbing incident in Oslo has concluded, and the case has been forwarded to the state prosecutor, according to police lawyer Kari Kirkhorn from the Oslo Police. She declined to comment on the specifics of the findings.
The incident occurred late on June 14, when police responded to reports of a fight between two groups of teenagers at the waterfront near Oslo Central Station. A 16-year-old boy was stabbed during the altercation and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital five days later.
Following the stabbing, another 16-year-old was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder. However, after the victim’s death, the charge was upgraded to murder. The accused has since turned 17 and has been held in custody since the summer. Police have stated that the investigation has provided a clear understanding of the events that unfolded that night, and the cause of death has been confirmed as the result of the stabbing.
The defense attorney for the 17-year-old, Marijana Lozic, expressed relief that the investigation has reached its conclusion, noting the prolonged waiting period for both her client and the victim’s family. While the defense acknowledges that the accused was present during the stabbing, he does not accept guilt for murder, stating he did not anticipate the tragic outcome.
In addition to the main suspect, three other minors are facing charges of complicity in the attempted murder. The state prosecutor will decide if all suspects should be formally charged. A trial is scheduled to commence on January 15 next year, designated for seven days in the Oslo District Court.
