Negotiations reach impasse as Trade Union meets mediation office in Iceland
Negotiations between the Trade Union and the employers’ representatives hit an impasse, prompting a meeting today to assess the current situation. This was stated by Terje Sigurðsson, the mediator involved.
The Trade Union was the first party to meet with the mediation office today at 1 PM, following reports that negotiations for a new agreement between the Trade Union, the Municipal Employers’ Association, and the Ministry of Finance had been broken off, necessitating the involvement of the mediation office.
A meeting with the other parties, namely the Ministry of Finance and the Municipal Employers’ Association, is scheduled for either Monday or Tuesday, according to Sigurðsson.
An anticipated strike has been postponed for a week from midnight. This means there will be no conflict for at least another week, as stated by Terje Sigurðsson.
He refrained from commenting on the likelihood of a strike occurring at this stage.
