Weather alert issued for northern Götaland and parts of southern Svealand due to strong winds
On Friday, a yellow weather alert has been issued for northern Götaland and parts of southern Svealand, lasting until the afternoon. A weak cold front is moving southward, which will bring increased winds as it passes. “Winds will pick up this afternoon, but will then decrease after that,” says meteorologist Kristin Hallberg.
The blustery conditions have led to fallen trees and disruptions in traffic. Krösatågen services between Linköping-Västervik and Linköping-Kalmar have been canceled and replaced with buses until 9 AM on Saturday.
Yellow warnings are also in effect for mountainous regions, extending into parts of Saturday. Warnings for strong to very strong winds combined with snowfall are in place in these areas. “We also have local wind warnings in the low terrain for Härjedalen, Jämtland, and northern Dalarna, with potential storm gusts,” adds Hallberg.
Gale warnings have been issued along almost the entire Swedish coastline, including the Baltic Sea, Öresund, Kattegatt, and Skagerrak, with the warnings in eastern areas continuing into Saturday. The weather has resulted in canceled ferries to Gotland overnight.
The severe weather conditions have also caused power outages and fallen trees in Jönköping County. Additionally, a truck skidded off the road outside Bräcke, resulting in significant traffic disruptions.
